WOT 205: Kubie Brown Part 1. Problem Solving with Streamers and Diversity in the Adirondacks

Jason Shemchuk, Wadeoutthere

In this episode we WadeOutThere with Kubie Brown from Southwest Montana.  Kubie grew up with an obsession for fishing that often led to solo fishing excursions in the streams, rivers, and lakes of Vermont and New York.  His literature and creative writing studies led him to work as a reporter and later an editor for a local newspaper.  Kubie quit his job as editor to take a job as a sales associate at Orvis, which later led to casting and fly tying instructing.

When the chance to go to guide school in Montana presented itself, Kubie jumped at the opportunity.  It’s there that Kubie continues to make a life for himself as a guide and freelance writer for online publications such as Meateater and Midcurrent.

In Part One of our conversation we discuss how Kubie approaches writing about fly fishing, the diversity of the Adirondacks, and techniques for continuing to problem solve while streamer fishing.
