WOT 201: Sight Fishing, Solitude, and Fighting Trout in New Zealand with Jack Kingsborough

Jason Shemchuk, Wadeoutthere

In this episode we WadeOutThere with Jack Kingsborough, from New Zealand.  Jack moved from Australia to New Zealand to pursue a life at sea in commercial fishing, and soon found a passion for fly fishing.

Now Jack works as a ship’s engineer for months at a time, and spends his off months hiking and backpacking in New Zealand’s mountainous backcountry in search of trout and adventure.  He sometimes travels twenty kilometers in a day for the chance to sight fish to one or two trophy sized fish that will give him the fight of his life.

We discuss sight fishing, fighting fish, and why Jack continues to find the solitude of his time fly fishing so precious.
